Biography
Born July 15, 1916 in the village of Mrezhnichki-Novatsi near Duga Resa. Before the war, he worked as a wheel master, collaborated with leaders of the Communist Party from Duga Resa and Karlovac. He joined the guerrilla movement on December 10, 1941 : he initially served in the Dubrava partisan detachment, and then in the 1st company of the 1st battalion of the 2nd Kordun detachment.
Millot received his baptism of fire in the battle for Doni Dubrava, attacking the enemy barracks and capturing 14 Ustasha. During the siege of Velun, he blocked the supply of water to the enemy’s garrison and thereby facilitated the task for his associates. Millau led the 1st proletarian company during the formation of one of the proletarian brigades, the first battle in the role of commander took near Shichy.
On April 6, 1942, near Plaszek, Benic headed to the Main Headquarters of the People's Liberation Partisan Units of Yugoslavia with a group of fighters and ran into Italian soldiers. A battle took place on a bridge near Latasov Hill. Millau received a mortal gunshot wound, but his squad managed to capture about forty Italians captured, seven heavy machine guns, twenty-eight rifles and other military equipment.
The title of People’s Hero, Millau Benic, was posthumously obtained on July 24, 1953 by decree of Josip Broz Tito.
