Biography
Represented the magnate family of the Poniatowski coat of arms Tsiolek . The fifth son of the voivode of Mazovia and the Kastelian of Krakow, Stanislav Poniatowski ( 1676 - 1762 ) and Constance Czartoryski ( 1696 - 1759 ). The younger brother of Stanislav Poniatowski ( 1732 - 1798 ), the last king of the Commonwealth ( 1764 - 1795 ).
From his youth, Andrzej Poniatowski served in the Austrian army, during the Seven Years' War with Prussia he was an infantry inspector. In 1758, he received the post of subcommittee (chamberlain) at the Austrian court. In 1760, Andrzej Poniatowski became lieutenant general of the Austrian army.
In 1764, Andrzej Poniatowski returned from Austria to Poland, where he supported the candidacy of his older brother, the captain of the great Lithuanian Stanislav Poniatowski , who was elected the new king of the Commonwealth. In 1765, Andrzej Poniatowski was sent as the Polish ambassador to Vienna, where on December 10 he received the title of Prince of the Holy Roman Empire.
As an Austrian officer, Andrzej Poniatowski could not represent the interests of the Commonwealth at the court of the Austrian emperor, but the Polish king Stanislav August convinced the Austrian Chancellor Anton Wenzel von Kaunitz to consider his brother as an unofficial ambassador. With the support of the Sardinian and English ambassadors, Andrzej Poniatowski successfully completed the diplomatic mission entrusted to him. In 1771, Prince Andrzej Poniatowski was promoted to Austrian field marshal .
Cavalier of the orders of Maria Theresa ( 1758 ), St. Stanislav ( 1765 ), White Eagle ( 1766 ) and St. Michael . He died in 1773 in Vienna from tuberculosis.

On May 3, 1761, Andrzej Poniatowski married the Austrian countess Maria Theresa Kinsky von Whinitz und Tettau ( 1736 - 1806 ). Children:
- Maria Teresa Ponyatovskaya ( 1760 - 1834 ), wife from 1778 of the referee of the great Lithuanian Vincent Tyszkiewicz ( 1757 - 1816 )
