Galina Aleksandrovna Arzhanova ( April 5, 1922 , p. Biography

After studying in the rural seven-year school, she entered the Moscow Pharmaceutical School. After graduating with honors, in 1940 she was sent to work as a pharmacist in Brest.

From the first days of the war she joined the struggle against the Nazi invaders. Established a relationship with the Brest underground. Spread leaflets, monitored the movement of enemy military units. In 1942, on the instructions of the Brest underground party committee, Galina Arzhanova returned to work at the pharmacy, while remaining connected to them. Chernaka Brest partisan unit.

Provided the partisans with medicines and medical instruments, participated in organizing the escapes of prisoners of war from the camps, sent them to the partisans, arranged secret meetings of partisan liaisons with the city underground.

In October 1943, it was captured by the invaders after the denunciation of the provocateur and delivered to the Gestapo . In prison she was tortured, interrogated about the underground and partisans, where and to whom she handed over medicines. More than once, they held a confrontation with the traitor Gertrude Wagner, imprisoned in prison. This "prisoner" identified many of the arrested underground. And she “recommended” Galya as an underground worker, a coherent partisan detachment, who was also planning to leave for partisans.

Information about Arzhanova to the underground was transmitted by the gypsy Lyuba, who was taken from the prison together with other female prisoners to the city for disinfection of common areas. Gale managed to convey four notes to the underground. In one of them she wrote: “The interrogation is conducted by a high Gestapo officer. Requires recognition, as contacted with the partisans. Do not be afraid, I will die, but I will not extradite anyone. I’ll take the secret to the grave. Goodbye, Motherland! Farewell to the Soviet people! Revenge the Nazis for us! ”

She steadfastly endured 28 cruel tortures.

The Nazis hanged Galina Arzhanova in the courtyard of Brest Prison in late 1943.

G. Arzhanova was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the I degree in 1968 (posthumously).

Memory

  • One of the streets of Brest is named after Galina Arzhanova.
  • In memory of the underground worker in Brest, a memorial table is installed.
  • On the city alley "Streets of Brest are named after them" among the portraits of the heroes there is a bas-relief of G. Arzhanova.
