Biography
Born September 10 (23), 1905 in a peasant family. Russian Secondary education.
Since 1922 he worked as a repair worker at Likhaya station , then he moved to work at the mine in the Sulin farm (now in the Millerovsky district of the Rostov region ).
From 1927 to 1929 - military service in the Red Army .
Having returned from the army, together with his comrades, he created the agricultural community "Progress" in the Dobrinsky district of the Lipetsk region , and became its deputy chairman.
In 1931 he joined the CPSU (b) .
He graduated from the Higher Communist Agricultural School in the city of Voronezh , was at the party and Soviet work. He worked in the Izberdeevsky district party committee (now Petrovsky district (Tambov region) ), then - in the district executive committee.
On September 9, 1941, he was again drafted into the army by the Izberdeevsky District Military Commissariat .
At the front in World War II from October 1941. He was sent by the company’s political instructor to the 1004th Infantry Regiment of the 305th Infantry Division , fought on the North-Western and Volkhov fronts, where his division was surrounded and almost completely destroyed.
At the beginning of 1944 he graduated from the Tambov Cavalry School.
Since May 1944, Chernikov was re-composed in the army on the 2nd Belorussian Front .
On June 28, 1944, the commander of the rifle platoon of the 609th rifle regiment of the 139th rifle division of the 50th army, Lieutenant Chernikov, with his platoon, was among the first to cross the Dnieper River in the vicinity of the village of Buinichi , now the Mogilyov district of the Mogilev region of the Republic of Belarus and the first to break into enemy trenches . In hand-to-hand combat, a platoon destroyed up to 40 Nazis and, chasing an escaping enemy, burst into the outskirts of the city of Mogilev . In street battles, a platoon captured 60 soldiers and 3 enemy officers, Chernikov personally destroyed the machine-gun point with grenades. Noticing that the German sappers are preparing to blow up the bridge, Chernikov led the platoon into the attack. During the battle, Chernikov tried to throw back the enemy grenade, but did not have time to throw it, the grenade exploded in his hand. With a decisive attack, the platoon took control of the bridge and saved it from an explosion, capturing 20 German soldiers and one officer. The seriously injured Chernikov was taken to the hospital. For these battles on July 14, 1944, the commander of the 609th Infantry Regiment, Colonel Grishaev , Lieutenant Chernikov was introduced to the rank of Hero of the Soviet Union [2] [3] , on August 5, 1944, the performance was signed by the commander of the 2nd Belorussian Front, Army General Zakharov , and the documents went to Moscow.
Chernikov spent several months in the hospital and underwent a number of operations. He became disabled - his right arm and several fingers on his left arm were amputated.
In January 1945 he was dismissed from the army due to injury.
He returned to his homeland. He worked as manager of the Izberdeevskaya interregional zagotskot.
On March 24, 1945, by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR for exemplary performance of combat missions of command on the front of the struggle against Nazi invaders and shown courage and heroism, Lieutenant Chernikov Grigory Ilyich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal
In May 1945, the military commissar of the Izberdeevsky district for active participation in the war was presented with the Order of the Red Banner [4] [5] , but by decision of the commander of the Oryol Military District, Colonel General Romanovsky was awarded the Order of World War II .
He lived in the village of Petrovskoye, the center of the Petrovsky district of the Tambov region . He worked as the foreman of the Petrovsky secondary school.
Since 1965, a personal pensioner of republican significance [6] .
Last years he lived in the city of Volgograd . He died on October 26, 1994 .
