Story
Writer Richard Harland meets a socialite Ellen Berent on a train. Ellen falls in love with the writer, seeing in him a resemblance to the late father, to whom she was attached to obsession. She quickly resigns to former groom Russell Quinton and marries Harland.
It gradually turns out that Ellen is pathologically jealous of any person or occupation to which her husband is partial. First, Richard’s younger brother, deprived of the ability to walk, “accidentally” drowns. Then the pregnant Ellen “accidentally” falls down the stairs, because of which she loses the child. When Ellen confesses to Richard in everything, he leaves her. Ellen decides to poison herself, hoping in this way to substitute her cousin Ruth, to whom Richard is very attached.
Russell Quinton attorney at trial. Under pressure, Ruth admits that she loves Richard. Richard then testifies to Ellen's jealousy and her confessions. Ruth was acquitted, and Richard was sentenced to two years in prison for hiding Ellen's actions.
