Palmin, Mikhail Arkhipovich

Mikhail Arkhipovich Palmin (1784-1852) - Russian writer, ordinary professor of philosophy and political economy at Kazan and St. Petersburg universities. He translated the essay “The Philosophical Study of the Origin of Our Concepts of the High and the Beautiful” by Edmund Burke.

Biography

Descended from a spiritual title. In 1797-1803 he studied at the Ryazan Theological Seminary ; On October 15, 1803, he entered the St. Petersburg Pedagogical Institute , from where he was graduated in 1808 as a student in the first department and appointed to the St. Petersburg Provincial Gymnasium as a senior teacher of Latin, and since 1814 - Russian literature.

In 1820, Palmin was appointed an extraordinary professor of philosophy and political economy at the Imperial Kazan University , and in 1822 he was approved as an ordinary professor of philosophy, diplomacy and political economy. At the same time, he served as dean of the department of moral-political sciences, secretary of the University Council and a member of the Committee of Publishers of Kazan Bulletin .

In 1824, Palmin left Kazan University, and in 1825 he was appointed full professor of theoretical and practical philosophy at St. Petersburg University ; in 1825–1826, he was Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy and Law, and in 1827 he was approved as an indispensable assessor of the University Board. In 1832 he was dismissed from the service of the educational department.

M.A. Palmin was married to the daughter of the court counselor Pavel Ostrogorsky; it is known that in 1835 he had three sons and four daughters.

M. A. Palmin translated from English Edmund Bork's essay “Philosophical Study of the Origin of Our Concepts ο High and Beautiful”. In a solemn meeting of Kazan University on July 5, 1821, he read a “brief historical note on Kazan University and its school district for 1820–21,” which was published in the book: Works in the Solemn Assembly of Imperial Kazan University, July 5, 1821 of the year. - Kazan: In University Printing House, 1821.
