Three - time European champion ( 1957 , 1959 , 1961 ), three-time Olympic silver medalist ( 1952 , 1956 , 1960 ), three-time winner of the European Champions Cup ( 1958 , 1958/59 , 1959/60 ). Career

Club

From 1949 to 1952 he played for Riga Dynamo [1] . With Dynamo, he became the champion of the Latvian SSR in 1951. In 1953 he became a player before [2] . He became a three-time champion of the USSR (1955, 1957, 1958) as part of the DO / SKA [1] , once won silver (1962) and bronze (1961) medals [2] .

Three times became the owner of the European Champions Cup : in the first draw of 1958 (scored 15 points in the second final match) [3] , in the draw of 1958/59 (7 points in the second final match) [4] and the draw 1959/60 (6 points in second final match) [5] .

Team

From 1952, he was a player in the USSR national team ; from 1957 to 1961, he was the team captain.

He participated in three European championships [6] , and in all three tournaments the team of the Soviet Union won. He scored an average of 7.4 points per game at the 1957 European Championship, 8.6 points per game at the 1959 European Championship, and 4 points per game at the 1961 European Championship [7] . At each of the three Olympics, he helped the USSR team achieve silver medals [1] : at the 1952 Games, he was the youngest in the Soviet team [8] , scored 6 points per game on average, and 6.6 points on average per game , and at the 1960 Games - 7.9 points [7] . He also played for the national team of the Latvian SSR , played 79 matches for it [2] . Winner of the Spartakiad of the Peoples of the USSR in 1956 [10] .

In 2006, in a survey of the newspaper Sport-Express , dedicated to the centenary of Russian basketball, he took 7th place in the list of the best point guards [11] .

Coaching

From 1964 to 1969 he trained the SKA in Riga , and from 1974 to 1991 (intermittently) - the WEF. With the WEF, he won bronze medals at the 1990/91 USSR Championship . Coached the national teams of the Latvian SSR and Latvia .

In the 1998/99 season, he headed the Buki club, leading him to the bronze of the Latvian championship [2] .
