Biography
Sergey Zorin was born in October 1922 in the village of Samodurovka [1] . In 1936 he graduated from the seven-year school, after which he worked as a shepherd and carpenter. In October 1941, Zorin was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. He was trained as a telephone operator. Since August 1942 - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. He took part in the battles on the South-West , Stalingrad , Voronezh , Steppe fronts. Participated in the Battle of Stalingrad . By July 1943, Sergeant Sergeant Zorin commanded the telephone department of the 214th Guards Rifle Regiment of the 73rd Guards Rifle Division of the 7th Guards Army of the Steppe Front. He distinguished himself during the Battle of Kursk [2] .
On July 6, 1943, near the village of Krutoy Log in the Belgorod region of the Belgorod region , when 70 German tanks attacked the positions of the battalion, Zorin, risking his life, repeatedly made his way between the enemy’s firing tanks and restored communications twelve times. When the connection was completely lost, on the orders of the battalion commander Zorin delivered reports to the regiment headquarters four times and successfully returned. During one of these sorties, he knocked out one of the tanks with a grenade. August 24, 1943 Zorin died in battle in the Kharkov region . Initially, he was buried on the outskirts of the village of Aleksandrovka 3 kilometers south-east of Merefa , after the war he was reburied in a mass grave in the village of Yakovlevka, Kharkov region [2] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of November 1, 1943, Sergeant Sergey Zorin was posthumously awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union for "exemplary fulfillment of command assignments at the front of the fight against the German invaders and shown courage and heroism" of the guard. He was also awarded the Order of Lenin and two medals "For Military Merit" [2] .
In honor of Zorin in 1966, his native village was renamed Zorino. Also named after him is a street in Yakovlevka [2] .
