Veolia Environnement is a French diversified company based in Paris . It specializes in four areas of activity: supply and purification of water (for both municipal and industrial customers), utilities (including cleaning and disposal of garbage), energy (supply of electricity, maintaining microclimate, installation and maintenance of energy and heating equipment) and transport services (airport maintenance, railway transportation and urban public transport management). As of 2012, the company employed 287 thousand people, sales amounted to 38.4 billion dollars, assets - 63.8 billion dollars. The main interests of the company are concentrated in Europe, Asia and the United States [1] .

History
In 1853, the Compagnie Générale des Eaux (CGE) was established by imperial decree, engaged in irrigation of fields and the supply of water to cities and villages (the first contract was to supply Lyon , in 1860 the company received a concession for the supply of water to Paris ). In 1867, a street cleaning company was founded in Nantes , in 1870 another company began to work in Rouen and Shawnee , collecting old rags and paper (both companies merged with CGE in 1980 and 1990, respectively). In 1875, Compagnie Générale Française de Tramways (CGFT) was founded, operating trams in Le Havre , Nancy and Marseille (it also merged with CGE in 1980). In 1880, CGE entered the Venice market, in 1882 - Istanbul , in 1883 - Porto , in 1884 - Reims [2] .
In 1912, the transport company CGEA (Compagnie Générale d'entreprises Automobiles) was founded, which in 1919 entered the Paris market for household waste (merged with CGE in 1980). In 1935, Chauffage Service was established, specializing in heating and air conditioning systems. In 1960, the Chauffage Service merged with the Compagnie Générale de Chauffe (CGC), founded in 1944 (in 1967 the merged company joined CGE). In 1953, on its centenary, Compagnie Générale des Eaux served 8 million people and more than 10 thousand km of engineering networks [3] .
In 1967, the company began managing its first waste incineration plants; in 1975, it established a subsidiary company for the processing of hazardous industrial waste. In 1980, CGE merged with its subsidiaries into the Omnium de Traitement et de Valorisation (OTV) group, in 1986 Groupe Montenay and Compagnie Générale de Chauffe merged, and in 1989 the Onyx brand appeared. In 1990, Onyx acquired Groupe Soulier, a major European paper and plastic processor. In 1994, CGE founded the Institute of Urban Environment at Jouy-les-Moutiers [4] .
In 1995, the merged companies Groupe Montenay and Compagnie Générale de Chauffe formed the CGE Energy Services group, and in 1996 the Onyx cleaning division was established. In 1998, the CGE Group changed its name to Vivendi, although the French water division retained the Compagnie Générale des Eaux brand and the CGE Energy Services was renamed Dalkia. In 1999, the newly created Vivendi Environnement merged the companies Vivendi Water (water supply), Onyx (waste management), Dalkia (energy) and Connex (transportation), and the telecommunication and media business was separated into a separate group Vivendi Universal [4] .
In 2000, Vivendi Environnement became listed on the Paris Stock Exchange , in 2001 on the New York Stock Exchange , in 2003 it changed its name to Veolia Environnement, in 2005, four divisions of the company took a single name (Veolia) and a new logo [5] .

Veolia Water ( Paris ) is engaged in water supply and wastewater treatment of residential buildings and enterprises (it supplies about 103 million people with drinking water and more than 70 million people treats wastewater), the company has more than 96.5 thousand employees, the turnover is over 12.6 billion euros (2011). Veolia Propreté
Veolia Propreté ( Nanterre ) collects, processes and utilizes household and industrial waste (serves more than 60 million residents and more than 800 thousand corporate customers, manages 763 recycling and incineration plants), the company employs about 77.5 thousand employees, turnover is over 9.7 billion euros (2011). Veolia Propreté is present in European markets ( France , UK , Germany , Belgium , Switzerland , Italy , Spain , Ireland , Denmark , Norway , Poland , Czech Republic , Slovakia , Hungary , Ukraine , Lithuania and Estonia ), America ( USA , Canada and Mexico ) , East Asia and Oceania ( China , Taiwan , South Korea , Singapore and Australia ), Africa and the Middle East ( Morocco , Tunisia , Senegal , Israel and Qatar ) [9] [10] .
Veolia Énergie (Dalkia)
Veolia Énergie ( Saint-Andre-le-Lille ) is engaged in the production and marketing of electricity, heating and hot water (operates 800 networks, including 44 cooling), the company employs 49.8 thousand employees, the turnover is 8.9 billion Euro (2012). Veolia Énergie is a joint venture of Veolia Environnement (66%) and Électricité de France (34%). Veolia Transdev (Transdev)
Veolia Transdev ( Issy-les-Moulineaux ) was a major operator of rail transportation and urban public transport (buses, trams, commuter trains, metro, boats, ferries and bicycles), the company employed more than 100 thousand employees, the turnover was almost 7.9 billion euros in 2011 and 8.2 billion euros in 2012. The group was formed in 2011 through the merger of Veolia Transport and Transdev, in the spring of 2013 it was restructured and renamed Transdev, the main shareholders were Caisse des dépôts et consignations (60%) and Veolia Environnement (40%). According to the plan to get the company out of the crisis, Veolia Environnement plans to leave Transdev shareholders, and Transdev itself has committed to sell about a quarter of its European assets, as well as to leave 10 out of 27 countries in which it was present [14] [15] .
