Sigterm

In POSIX systems, SIGTERM is a signal for requesting completion of a process.

SIGTERM is an integer constant defined in the signal.h header file. The symbolic names of the signals are used instead of numbers, since in different implementations the signal numbers may vary.

Etymology

SIG - general prefix of signals (from the English signal ), TERM - abbreviated spelling of the English. terminate - complete.

Usage

SIGTERM is sent to the process by the kill utility by default. Unlike SIGKILL, this signal can be processed or ignored by the program.
