History
Izhevsk school number 62 has historically developed a tradition of educating students in interest in space. Long before the flight of Yuri Gagarin, students built models of rockets, launching them from the school yard. The day after Gagarin’s flight, school No. 62 was named after the first cosmonaut; According to the curator of the Museum of Aviation and Cosmonautics Marina Astafieva, Izhevsk school was the first to receive this name, even ahead of the school in Gagarin’s native Gzhatsk [1] .
In 1965, at the school, on the initiative of the director Z.S. Chernova, a museum of aviation and cosmonautics was established, whose leader was Roza Aleksandrovna Zezyanova [2] [3] . The students corresponded with Yu. A. Gagarin, whose response letters and sent photographs are included in the museum [1] .
In 1968, the only school planetarium in Russia was opened at the museum [1] . In 1976, the museum was awarded the title of People’s. In 2000, the museum confirmed the title of the best and became a laureate of the All-Russian Museum Review. In 2005, the Presidium of the Association of Cosmonautics Museums of Russia awarded the People's Cosmonautics Museum in Izhevsk with the medal "Overcoming", and the school principal L.N. Zhukov and the head of the museum R. A. Zezyanov with the medal Yu. A. Gagarin [2] .
