Name Origin
There is a Cossack version of origin. Chiga - subethnos of the Cossacks, the upper Cossacks by the bottom Donets were called the chiga. Chiganaki, Chiganak - the traditional name of lakes, rivers, eriks, channels and settlements near the Upper Don Cossacks. In the upper reaches of Khopr there were several Cossack villages and towns that are now within the Voronezh and Saratov regions, torn away from the Cossacks and not included in the Land of the Don Cossacks (and then into the Don Cossack Region for the entry of Cossack lands into Russia). For example, below Khopr there is the village of Bolshoi Karay - formerly a village founded by the ataman Black.
