Biography
Valentin Zinchenko was born on August 25, 1923 in the village of Pervomaisk (now - a city in the Lugansk region of Ukraine ). In 1925 he moved to Enakievo , where he graduated from eight classes of a school and flying club. In 1940, Zinchenko was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In 1942, he graduated from the Tambov Military Aviation Pilot School. Since July 1943 - on the fronts of World War II. He participated in the Battle of Kursk , the battle for the Dnieper , the Korsun-Shevchenkovsky and Iasi-Kishinev operations, the liberation of Romania , Yugoslavia [1] .
By April 1945, Guard Lieutenant Valentin Zinchenko was a pilot of the 166th Guards Assault Aviation Regiment of the 10th Guards Assault Air Division of the 17th Air Army of the 3rd Ukrainian Front . By that time, he had made 102 sorties for reconnaissance and attack of accumulations of military equipment and manpower of the enemy, inflicting heavy losses [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of August 18, 1945, for “exemplary performance of command missions at the front of the battle against the German invaders and the courage and heroism shown” of the guard, Lieutenant Valentin Zinchenko was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Medal Star ” under number 8987 [1] .
In 1946, with the rank of senior lieutenant, Zinchenko was transferred to the reserve. In 1953 he graduated from the Kiev Technological Institute of the Food Industry , after which he worked at bakeries in Donetsk , Krasnodon , Starobelsk , Enakievo . Later settled in Kiev . He died on October 8, 1986, was buried at the Berkovetsky cemetery in Kiev [1] .
Awards
He was also awarded two orders of the Red Banner , two orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree, a number of medals [1] .
