Vasily Kuzmich Zimnyagin ( 1913 - 1945 ) - captain of the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army , participant in the Great Patriotic War , Hero of the Soviet Union ( 1945 ).

Biography
Born on January 1, 1913 in the village of Mildevo (now - Melenkovsky district of Vladimir region ). After completing four classes, he worked at a logging station. In June 1941, Zimnyagin was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. He graduated from the military-political school. Since August 1942 - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. By January 1945, Captain Vasily Zimnyagin commanded the battery of the 1186th anti-tank artillery regiment of the 1st Shock Army of the 2nd Baltic Front . He distinguished himself during the battles in the territory of the Latvian SSR [1] .
On January 5, 1945, Zimnyagin’s battery was attacked by 12 German tanks near the village of Pienava in the Tukum district . Battery fighters knocked out 4 of them, but they themselves lost 2 guns. In the battle, Zimnyagin was seriously wounded, threw himself with a grenade at the enemy tanks, but was killed. He was buried in Jelgava [1] .
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of June 29, 1945, Captain Vasily Zimnyagin was posthumously awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union . He was also awarded the Orders of Lenin and World War 1 degree, a medal [1] .
