Brief
Madrigal comedy is a collection of madrigals and plays of other genres ( villanella , balletto , canzonetta ), united by a single thematic canvas (“plot”), usually on poems of lyrical and humorous content. Like madrigal, madrigal comedy is performed by an unaccompanied vocal ensemble, or accompanied by a digital bass and simple percussion instruments. The first example of a madrigal comedy is considered "Il cicalamento delle donne al bucato" ("Women's Gossip in the Laundry", 1567), written by Alessandro Strigo . The most significant examples of madrigal comedies are presented in the works of composers Orazio Vecchi and Adriano Bankieri . Madrigal comedy is considered by researchers as a creative laboratory in which the drama and stylistics of the early opera were formed . Unlike opera, the madrigal comedy does not imply scenography , dance, or developed instrumental accompaniment, but sometimes it contains a part of a (non-singing) narrator.
Vekki is the author of the madrigal comedies Amfiparnaso (L'Amfiparnaso, 1597) and Siena Parties (Le veglie di Siena, 1604). Peru Bancieri owns the madrigal comedies “A Boat from Venice to Padua” (“Barca di Venetia per Padova”, 1605; 2nd edition with basso continuo , 1623), “Festival of the Broad Maslenitsa” (“Festino nella sera del Giovedì Grasso avanti Cena ", 1608)," Senile Folly "(" La pazzia senile ", 1598; 2nd ed., 1599), etc.
