History
Hamburg was founded in the 19th century by German settlers. In those days, ships with immigrants often delivered from the German port of Hamburg , delivering them to the coast of " Kaffir lands". The place where South African Hamburg was located in 1854 was located on the border between the Cape Colony and British Kafraria. In the course of further British expansion in South Africa, this area was annexed to the Cape Colony, and after the formation of the South African Union in 1910, it became part of the Cape Province .
In 1961-1994 Hamburg was part of the Siskey bantustan .
Present
Currently, less than 100 people live in the village. However, there are small bed and breakfast hotels for tourists. The beach is quite large and almost never used. The post office is in a small local supermarket. Not far from the city is the eponymous natural park.
A gravel road with a length of about 10 km leads to the city.
