Rye ( lat. Secále ) - a genus of grassy flowering plants of the family Cereals ( Poaceae ); enters the tribe Wheaten ( Triticeae ) subfamily Myatlikovye ( Pooideae ). About ten species common in the Mediterranean , as well as in South Africa [2] .

The most famous species is Sowing Rye ( Secale cereale ), one of the most important grain crops , cultivated in both hemispheres in subtropical and moderately warm regions. The word rye usually refers to the fruits or plants of this particular species. In Central Russia , Forest Rye ( Secale sylvestre ) is an annual wild plant [3] .
Representatives of the genus are annual and perennial herbaceous plants [2] .
Spikelets are single, sessile, consist of two prolific flowers and rudement of the third upper flower. Spikelets are collected in complex inflorescences - ears [2] .
