Maaret Misrin ( Arabic: معرة مصرين ) is a city in northwestern Syria located in the governorate of Idlib . It is part of the Idlib region .

Content
History
The city was captured by the Arabs from the Byzantines in 637 . In 968, Emperor Nicephorus II Foka conquered Maaret Misrin, but the following year, under the terms of a peace treaty concluded between him and the Fatimids , he transferred the city to the Arabs [1] . Subsequently, the city repeatedly passed from hand to hand; at different times it was owned by the Byzantines , Seljuks , Crusaders , Ottomans and French .
Geographical position
The city is located in the north-eastern part of the governorate, at an altitude of 338 meters above sea level [2] .
Maaret Misrin is located approximately 7 kilometers northeast (NNE) from Idlib , the provincial capital, and 275 kilometers northeast from Damascus , the country's capital.
