Yolanda Adams ( born Yolanda Adams ; born August 27, 1961, Houston , Texas ) is an American singer and radio host. As of December 2009, Adams, according to Nielsen SoundScan , had more than 4.5 million albums sold in the United States. In April 2013, she released 12 studio albums, four of which reached the pinnacle of the American gospel hit parade. Adams won the Grammy Award four times.

Biography

Yolanda Adams grew up listening to jazz , classical music, gospel artists such as James Cleveland and Edwin Hawks, and rhythm and blues artists such as Stevie Wonder and Nancy Wilson . Prior to her musical career in the 1980s, she worked as a school teacher in Houston, and sometimes worked as a model.

In 1988, Sounds Of Gospel released their debut album Adams, dubbed Just as I Am . Initially, she was criticized by the Christian community for using secular music and fashion in performing Christian music. The growing popularity of gospels in the mid-1990s had a positive effect on Adams' career. She toured with the band Kirk Franklin & The Family, and her 1996 live album, Yolanda Live in Washington, was nominated for a Grammy Award.

In 1999, Adams released her most successful album, Mountain High ... Valley Low , which sold over 1.3 million copies in the United States and brought her the first Grammy Award in her career.

Personal life

from 1987 to 1990, Adams was married to Troy Mason [1] . In 1997, Yolanda married NFL player Tim Crawford. In 2001, the couple had a daughter, Taylor Aianna [2] . In August 2004, Adams and Crawford divorced after 7 years of marriage.
