Sons of A.A. Shustikov: Socrates, Vladimir and Konstantin

Born on August 12, 1859 in the village of Khmelevskaya (now Vozhegodsky district of the Vologda region ) in the family of a peasant Alexei Stepanovich Shustikov - a native of ushkunikov . He had an older brother Sergei, who worked as a volost clerk. Subsequently, A. A. Shustikov wrote: “Well-educated people from the landlords came to visit my brother for a long time (the brother was their forest agent). Their conversations were extremely interesting to me, especially Kvashnin-Samarin , who traveled a lot around Europe and read a lot of books. I am addicted to books and science. ” He received a home education, was a volunteer at the Imperial University of St. Vladimir in Kiev. A. A. Shustikov was a member of the Vologda Society for the Study of the Northern Territory (WOISK) and the bibliography commission, organized in 1909. In 1880–1883, Lopatin German Alexandrovich , the first translator of Capital, K. Marx, into Russian lived on his estate. He was a member of the Kadnikovsky Zemsky Assembly, then the Vologda Zemsky Assembly, the Vologda City Council , and a member of the Vologda City Council. He was married to Maria Yakovlevna Yushina, the daughter of the Vologda merchant, a well-known entrepreneur in the transportation of goods from the north of the Russian Empire, J. Y. Yushin. M. Ya. Yushina (Shustikova) graduated from high school in Vologda and was a student of the Higher. feminine. courses in St. Petersburg, where in 1880 she participated in the studio. movement. In Vologda, the Yushins house has been preserved. The Shustikov-Yushin family had four sons and two daughters. The eldest son Sokrat Andreevich Shustikov , after graduating from St. Petersburg State University, later became a famous scientist in the field of elasticity theory and mathematics, was a student of academician B. G. Galerkin . A. A. Shustikov traveled a lot in the Vologda province, visiting Kirillovsky, Kadnikovsky, Velsky and other counties. As a result, he managed to collect many songs, ditties, proverbs, as well as old household items and clothes. During his work A. A. Shustikov wrote 42 works, which have become a unique source in our time about the life of the Russian north of the late 19th century. The most important works of A. A. Shustikov were “The Trinity of Kadnikovsky County. Everyday essay ”,“ The village of Shatalovo and its inhabitants ”,“ Hunting in the Kadnikovsky district ”,“ On the development of forestry ”,“ On a rural gathering ”,“ On a secular redistribution of land ”and the monograph“ Fruits of leisure. Essays and stories from northern Russian life. " For his work, A. A. Shustikov was awarded two silver medals of the Imperial Russian Geographical Society (for the essay “Troichina” and for ethnographic materials on the Velsky district). A. A. Shustikov was published in Petersburg newspapers and magazines Zhivaya Starina , Russky Courier, Russkiye Vedomosti , as well as in the journals of the Vologda Province Vologda Leaflet and Severny Krai. Shustikov's essays “On a rural gathering” and “On a secular redistribution of land” describe “worldly gatherings” - meetings of peasants living in the same volost or village, at which a variety of issues were discussed. The story "The village of Shatalovo and its inhabitants" reveals in Shustikov an orientation towards Tolstoy and Chekhov literary traditions and values, describing the violation of the moral foundations of the patriarchal life of the inhabitants of the Russian North under the influence of the "new" morality, "coupon power". A. A. Shustikov died in his native village, his house and all his property burned down during the revolution, the Bolshevik government refused to retire "because of the lack of merit to the Soviet government."
