Biography
It came from a large and noble magnate family Potocki coat of arms Pilyava . The only son of the headman of Guzovsky and Lieutenant General of the Crown Troops Jan Prosper Potocki (d. 1761/1762) and Paula Shembek (d. 1797 ).
Anthony Protasiy Pototsky inherited from his father large land holdings and large sums of money. Thanks to his marriage to Princess Marianne Lubomirsky ( 1773 - 1810 ), the daughter of the Russian Lieutenant General Casper Lubomirsky (d. 1780 ) and Barbara Lubomirskaya, he increased his capital even more.
One of the first Polish capitalists of the Enlightenment . May 3, 1791 supported the adoption of the Constitution of the Commonwealth .
In the 1780s, he founded banking offices in Warsaw , Makhnovka (now Komsomolskoe) and Kherson . In his vast possessions in Ukraine, the center of which was Makhnovka, he founded cloth, furniture, earthenware and other manufactories.
On May 8, 1787, Anthony Protasiy Pototsky was awarded the Order of the White Eagle .
In March 1783, Anthony Pototsky became one of the founders of the "Company of Eastern Trade", established in Vinnitsa . In January 1785 he became the head of this trading company. He founded an office in the Russian port of Kherson , from where he traded Polish goods across the Black Sea. With his financial operations and trade, he accumulated a huge fortune (60-70 million zlotys). In 1791, he bought for himself the senatorial post of governor of Kiev .
In 1793, due to the financial crisis and the second division of the Commonwealth, Anthony Protasiy Pototsky was forced to declare bankruptcy.
After the partition of Poland, he swore allegiance to Russia, and on May 6, 1793 he was granted the post of Privy Councilor with an appointment to attend the Senate . On February 5, 1797 he was appointed senator of the 3rd department, on August 13, 1798 he was dismissed from service.
The last years of his life he spent in his estate Makhnovka.
Family
He was married to the daughter of Casper Lubomirsky , the famous beauty Marianne , who was married to his daughter Emilia. In 1792, the wife became pregnant from the young Russian commander V.A. Zubov . To avoid scandal, Pototsky “lost” to his wife Zubov, having drawn up a divorce from her.
