Biography

Born in Vilnius , father - Victor Kholin, mother - Laima Kholina, in whose family grew two daughters: Angelica and Greta. Having started to be engaged in a ballet group since the age of four [2] , from 1976 to 1981, she attended the lessons of the classical dance ensemble “Liepsne” (headed by Lidia Motejunayte) at the Palace of Culture of the Vilnius trade union.
In 1989 she graduated from Vilnius Art Gymnasium named after M. K. Čiurlionis , teacher A. Nasvitene. At the age of 21 she made the first attempts at her own productions, at the same time she entered GITIS in Moscow.
She graduated from the course of Professor G. O. Tarasova, a Candidate of Art Criticism in 1996 with a specialty “director-choreographer” [3] . In the same year, Kholina’s choreographic debut was a two-act ballet “Medea” to the music of A. Rekasius, staged at the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theater .

Since 1998 she has taught at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater in Vilnius.
In 2000, founded her own dance theater A / CH specializing in modern dance [1] . The repertoire of the theater is 90% of the performances of Kholina herself [4] . The performances were presented to the audience of Hungary, Luxembourg, Turkey, England, Latvia, Poland, Russia, Denmark, China.

Angelika Kholina is one of the most famous choreographers of Lithuania, associate professor of the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater (since 1998). Her name is known in European and American ballet circles - the miniatures she supplied for beginning dancers of the Vilnius and Munich ballet schools were awarded prizes at international ballet competitions in Lausanne, Varna, Moscow, Paris, Tokyo, New York, Stockholm, Munich and Helsinki. The choreographer is invited to the production of dance scenes in the films of the company Warner Brothers [5] .

Since 2008 she has collaborated with the Vakhtangov Theater , where she staged choreographic performances: “The Coast of Women” (2008) [6] , “Anna Karenina” (2012) [7] [8] , with whom the theater toured extensively around the country, having visited and European countries, in Cuba [9] , in China.

With Anna Karenina, Kholina participated in the Golden Mask -2013 in the nomination - “the work of choreographer choreographer [10] .
In 2013, she transferred to the Vakhtangov stage, “Othello” [11] , having finalized it taking into account the new possibilities of the troupe. To the opening of the New Theater Stage in 2015, re-puts "Men and Women, or Scenarios by which people live" [12] .

As a director-choreographer, she took part in the creation of the performances “Eugene Onegin” (2013), “Minetti” (2015) and “King Oedipus” (2016), staged there by Rimas Tuminas .

Angelica Holina, like many of her colleagues, having received a start in life at GITIS, today, like a boomerang, returns to Moscow and generously gives us his work, once again confirming the long-standing truth: real art does not and cannot have any limits .

- Boris Poyurovsky , “New News” [13]

The performances created by the choreographer are exceptional - elements of classical ballet, modern dance and drama are intertwined in them. According to A. Kholina, the choice of means of expression, dancers and actors depends only on the theme of the production [2] .

I work in the genre of plastic theater all my life, and, frankly, I never cared how to call my productions - drama, ballet or something else. I want to create a live theater, and in what ways I achieve this, it does not matter. Of course, the movement is important, I cannot do without it, but the main thing is to have a meaning, the essence of the work is expressed. [14]

Since 2016, A. Kholina has collaborated with the Bolshoi Theater of Russia , in which, together with the director R. Tuminas, she staged the opera Katerina Izmailova [15] and The Queen of Spades [16] in 2018.
In 2017, together with R. Tuminas, she participated in the production of “King Oedipus” / “The Castle of the Duke Bluebeard” [17] in the Musical Theater named after Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko .

Continuing to live in two countries, in September 2017, Kholina released in Lithuania a new play “Idiot” [18] , entirely made to the music of G. Kancheli . A year later he was received on the Arbat in Moscow [19] .

In 2019, she took part in the Benois de la Danse , where, in addition to fragments of performances from previous years, a specially prepared number was shown - the duet of Nastasya Filippovna and Parfen Rogozhin (heroes of Idiot Dostoevsky) performed by Olga Smirnova and Valery Suanov [20] .
