Biography
Born on September 1 (14), 1914 in the village of Aleksandrovka (now the Nizhnelomovsky district of the Penza region ). He received his primary education, after which he worked as a road foreman in the village of Kartaly .
In August 1941, he was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since September 1942 - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. By September 1943, the Guard Corporal Serafim Zemlyanov was the sapper of the 86th Guards Separate Engineer Battalion of the 77th Guards Rifle Division of the 61st Army of the Central Front . He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper [1] .
During the crossing of the Dnieper , I searched for crossing points in the area of the village of Gubichi, Repkin district, Chernihiv region of the Ukrainian SSR , prepared rafts and available boats. His actions contributed to the successful crossing of the Dnieper by units of the 77th Guards Rifle Division. For a whole day on an improvised raft transported anti-tank guns to the west bank of the river [1] .
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of January 15, 1944, Corporal Serafim Zemlyanov was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Golden Gold medal for “exemplary performance of command missions of the command on the front of the fight against the German invaders and the courage and heroism shown” of the guard. After the war was demobilized. He returned to Kartaly, worked at the Kartaly Spare Parts Plant. He died on January 17, 1998, was buried in Kartaly [1] .
Honorary citizen of Kartalov and Kartalinsky district. He was also awarded two orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree, orders of the Red Star and Glory of the 3rd degree, a number of medals [1] .
Perpetuation of memory
- A bust of Zemlyanov is installed on the Heroes Avenue in the city of Insar ( Republic of Mordovia ).
- In the city of Nizhny Lomov, Penza Region, on the Walk of Fame, a memorial plaque was erected for the hero.
- In 2016, in the city of Kartaly ( Chelyabinsk Region ), the secondary school No. 17 was named after S.I. Zemlyanov.
