Biography
Nikolai Vasilievich Zebnitsky was born on December 17, 1919 in the village of Novosukhotino (now the city of Taiynsha in the North Kazakhstan region of Kazakhstan ). He received secondary education, after which he worked as a teacher. In 1940, Zebnitsky was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In 1941, he graduated from the Oryol Infantry School. Since June of that year - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. In September 1941, Zebnitsky led a platoon of special forces of the Western Front , performing special tasks in the enemy rear in the Smolensk and Vitebsk regions [1] .
In April 1942, Zebnitsky was appointed commissar of the partisan detachment of the NKGB of the BSSR named after Dzerzhinsky (better known as the "Second" detachment). The group performed special operations on the territory of the Byelorussian SSR. So, on July 4, 1942, the detachment seized secret documents on the deployment and condition of several German units. In the battle, he was seriously wounded, from whom he later died, detachment commander Pavel Kochuevsky. Zebnitsky took command of the detachment upon himself. The detachment under his leadership conducted operations in the Mogilev , Gomel , Oryol , Smolensk , Polessk , Chernihiv regions, being in the enemy rear for twenty months. During this time, the detachment obtained a huge amount of the most important information transmitted to the Center. The soldiers of the detachment destroyed 5 echelons, 19 cars and trucks, 377 enemy soldiers and officers, 13 occupation volost departments and the prison in Vasilevichy were defeated, which allowed the release of 90 prisoners, several garrisons. The fighters of the detachment propagandized an entire police detachment, which with arms crossed to their side. Three more reconnaissance groups were formed on the basis of the detachment. Its number increased to 219 people [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of January 1, 1944 for "exemplary combat missions behind enemy lines and special merits in the development of the partisan movement in Belarus," senior lieutenant Nikolai Zebnitsky was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Golden Star medal under the number 3206 [1] .
After the war, Zebnitsky served in the state security organs of the USSR. In March 1955, with the rank of Major of State Security, he was sacked. He lived in Gomel . He died on November 29, 1975, was buried in Gomel [1] .
He was awarded two orders of Lenin, orders of the Red Banner and the Red Star , and a number of medals [1] .
In honor of Nikolai Zebnitsky, a memorial sign is installed on the Heroes Alley in Gomel.
