Janos Baláša ( Balášsha ; Hungarian. Balassa János ; May 5, 1814 , Scharsentlerinz (now Tolna County , Hungary ) - December 9, 1868 , Pest (now Budapest )) - a famous Hungarian doctor , surgeon , professor at the University of Pest. (1843), honorary member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences . One of the leading figures in Hungarian medicine in the mid-19th century.

He studied medicine in Vienna, and later taught a course of surgery at the University of Pest.
Internationally recognized authority in the field of plastic surgery . Pioneer of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) . One of the first to perform external (indirect) heart massage.
In 1858, he successfully performed cricothyrotomy surgery with subsequent compression of the chest in case of asphyxiation from laryngitis .
He performed a number of successful bladder surgeries.
Janos Balasha drew up a document according to which it was recommended to send Semmelweis to a psychiatric hospital. On July 30, 1865, Ferdinand Ritter von Gebra tricked him into visiting a madhouse in Doebling near Vienna. When Semmelweis understood and tried to escape, the hospital staff beat him, put him in a straitjacket and placed him in a dark room. As a treatment, he was prescribed a laxative and dousing with cold water. Two weeks later, Semmelweiss passed away.
