Biography

Vasily Zdunov was born on October 24, 1924 in the village of Lobaski (now - Atyashevsky district of Mordovia ). He graduated from high school, lived in the Chelyabinsk region . In August 1942, Zdunov was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . He studied at the Leningrad Infantry School, but in March 1943, the undergraduate cadet Zdunov was sent to the front. By July 1944, Senior Sergeant Vasily Zdunov commanded the guns of the 207th separate anti-tank fighter division of the 348th Rifle Division of the 3rd Army of the 1st Belorussian Front . He distinguished himself during the liberation of the Minsk region of the Byelorussian SSR [1] .

On July 1, 1944, near the village of Sunishche, Chervensky District, Zdunov’s calculation cut the road to the retreating enemy forces on the Mogilev - Minsk highway. In that battle, the crew destroyed 2 assault guns, 4 vehicles, 8 wagons, several dozen enemy soldiers and officers. When the enemy tried to surround and capture the gun, Zdunov organized the defense and successfully repelled the attack [1] .

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of September 25, 1944, Senior Sergeant Vasily Zdunov was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal [1] .

After the war he continued his service in the Soviet Army. He graduated from the Gorky Military Political School and the Military Political Academy , after which he remained in the last teaching, was the head of the faculty. He later served in the USSR Civil Defense system. He retired with the rank of Major General [1] . He lived in Moscow , died on June 28, 1998 [2] . He was buried at the Troekurovsky cemetery in Moscow.

He was also awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree (03/11/1985), three orders of the Red Star (04/29/1945; 12/30/1956; 12/27/1982), the Order of the Badge of Honor (09/09/1988), the order "For Service to the Homeland" in the USSR Armed Forces ” 3rd degree (04/30/1975), the Russian Order of Friendship (04/28/1995), two medals" For Courage "(08.1943; 5.01.1944), the medal" For Military Merit "(06/13/1952), next medals [3] .
