Feature
Edgar Frese recorded this album after returning from a tour of Australia in 1975. The music probably reflects his impressions of Southeast Asia and Australia. According to Frese , the name of the album is related to a couple of my trips to Malaysia and Australia, so this is a very personal album for me, even a little mystical. The word Epsilon in the title is used to mean a person completely wrapped in his environment, and Pale means a haze of constantly present heavy humidity [1] .
Lush and enchanting, like its exotic cover, Epsilon in Malaysian Pale is closest to Tangerine Dream in all of Frese's solo albums. The light sequencer trance and waves of majestic synthesizer effects on Maroubra Bay are very similar to Tangerine Dream's Rubycon album, released that year. The title track, however, is an atmospheric mellotron product with virtually no sequencers [2] .
The sound of the album is close to Phaedra and Rubycon , electronic synthesizer dives also resemble the first solo album of Frese Aqua . After a brief introduction, the listener plunges into a hypnotic and contemplative electronic adventure with a dominant mellotron and interspersed with acoustic sounds, in particular flutes. The sampled concrete sounds of the jungle and the moving train are also heard, just as the concrete sounds were used on his previous album Aqua . Frese's best solo work, defining and memorable album of experimental electronic progressive music .
