Biography
Young years
Tammam Salam was born in Beirut in 1945 . He was the eldest son in the family of Saib Salam , the former Prime Minister of Lebanon from 1970 to 1973 [1] [2] [3] and Tamima Mardam Bake, a Syrian from Damascus [4] [5] [6] .
He graduated from Broummana High School and Haykazyan University in Beirut [7] [8] .
From 2008 to 2009, he served as Minister of Culture.
Lebanese Prime Minister
After the resignation of Najib Mikati from the post of Prime Minister of Lebanon on March 23, 2013 , with the support of Najib Mikati, Valid Jumblatt and the Alliance, March 14, , Salam was entrusted with the formation of the government. On April 6, 2013 , after he received 124 votes of 128 members of parliament in his support, he was confirmed as Prime Minister [9] [10] [11] .
On March 20, 2014, the new Lebanese government received a vote of confidence in parliament. Voted for 96 of the 101 deputies present in the hall. Prime Minister Tamam Salam thanked parliamentarians for their confidence in his government, saying that
| No one expects a miracle from us, but we will try, on the basis of the agreement reached, to overcome this most difficult period in the life of Lebanon and the region with the least losses. [12] |
April 18 , after meeting with the patriarch of the Maronite church Bishara Raya, Tamam Salam said that the presidential election in Lebanon "will be held as scheduled. There are no obstacles for their holding on April 23. Our duty is to fulfill this popular demand in accordance with the constitution and democratic traditions ” [13] .
Lebanon's Acting President
On May 25, 2014, after the expiration of the term of office of President Michel Suleiman and futile attempts to elect a new one , at the country's first cabinet executive session, Prime Minister Tammam Salam said the government should work to help the process of electing the next president [14] , emphasizing that since May 25, the government exercises the powers of the president [15] . On October 31, 2016, after 2.5 years after the start of the election, Michel Aoun was elected President of Lebanon [16] [17] [18] [19] .
