Ivan Senyug — Uyak [K 1] ( Serbo -Horv . Biography
He was born in 1920 in the settlement of Slobodnitsa (near the town of Slavonski Brod ) in a poor peasant Galician family of immigrants, a Ukrainian. He graduated from Slobodnitsa elementary school and gymnasium in the city of Slavonski Brod, which was at that time one of the centers of active work of the Union of Communist Youth of Yugoslavia . He was engaged in the promotion of youth movement in the villages of Sibin, Oriovac, Brodsky Stupnik and other settlements. He published the newspaper "The Struggle of the Youth" ( Serb. Borba Mladiha ), was in the literary circle "Mesich" [1] [2] [3] .
He joined the fight against the Nazis at the end of June 1941 [1] . Participated in the preparation of an armed uprising, carried out the collection of weapons and military equipment. July 9, 1941 was admitted to membership in the Communist Party of Yugoslavia.
At the beginning of July 1941, Senyug became part of the first partisan group formed in the Cerovac Forest on Mount Dil . By mid-July, there were about 25 people in the group. Subsequently, Senyug was appointed political commissar of the company as part of the 1st Slavonsky brigade, and after the creation of the 3rd battalion of the brigade he became his commissar. He participated in the battles for settlements Vočín , Podravska-Slatina , Nasice , Velika Pisanitsa , Podgorac and others. He took part in the battles in the Croatian Zagorje in order to capture the city of Lepoglava and in Bosnia in the period from November 1943 to May 1944 . He distinguished himself in the battles for Pnjavr on January 19, 1944, as well as on Motaitsa in the struggle against the occupiers, Ustashes and Chetniks . After returning to Slavonia, he took the position of political commissar of the 16th Youth Brigade named after Jozy Vlahovic , then became Commissioner and, later, Commander of the 12th Slavonskaya Shock Brigade.
On August 20, 1944, during the assault on the Grubishno-Pole, Ivan Senyug was wounded in the throat, but continued to command the brigade until the capture of the city. Over the next four days, the doctors fought for the life of the brigade commander, but Ivan Senyug died from his injury. June 19, 1945 he was posthumously conferred the title of the National Hero of Yugoslavia.
