Alfa Romeo Giulietta (Series 116) is a mid-size car manufactured by the Italian automobile company Alfa Romeo . The model was introduced in November 1977 [1] and received a name from the classic Giulietta , produced from 1954 to 1965. The model received a new design, but was based on the Alfa Romeo Alfetta chassis (including rear differential and drive). Giulietta went through two restyling: the first was in 1981, and the second in 1983.

At that time it was a regular three-piece body, the defining place of difference was in the rear, where a short trunk and a small aerodynamic spoiler integrated into the body were installed. Giulietta was only a sedan, but there were several station wagons converted from sedans.

History
First Series
In the beginning, only two types of engines were available: a 1.3-liter (1.357 cm³ with 95 hp) and a 1.6-liter (1.570 cm³ with 109 hp). In May 1979, only two years later, a 1.8-liter engine (1,779 cm³ with 122 hp) was available, and the next May a Super Giulietta with a 2-liter engine (1,962 cm³ with 130 liters) became available .with.). Second Series
In the summer of 1981, Giulietta received a small restyling, external and internal, and the engines remained the same. The car received plastic protection for the lower part of the body, inside there were many changes like a new steering wheel and new seats. The dashboard and central tunnel has also been modified.
Autodelta released the Giulietta 2.0 Turbo Autodelta (175 bhp), which was introduced at the 1982 Paris Motor Show . this special version had a 1.962 cm³ turbo engine. [2] The final Giulietta Turbodelta had 170 hp. (125 kW) and turbocharging from KKK, working together with two barrel-shaped carburetors from Weber. [3] All turbocharged versions had a black or red interior. A total of 361 copies were produced. In the same year, the Giulietta 2.0 Ti and turbodiesel (VM) with a 1.995 cm³ engine with 82 hp (60 kW) were also presented to the public.
In 1982, Alfetta and Giulietta turbodiesels set seven world speed records at 5/10/25/50 thousand kilometers and 5/10/25 thousand miles on the Nardo highway in Lecce. [4] [5]
Third Series
At the end of 1983, the “84” Giulietta (Series 3) was introduced with minimal body differences. The bumpers were redesigned and the instrument panel changed slightly, on some versions the rear sofa received a new design. Mechanically, this model was exactly the same as the old series, the brakes received a slight change - the amplifier and intake manifold on some versions were changed.
The largest market for Giulietta was South Africa, where Alfa Romeo had a successful TV ad campaign. Sales were very successful from 1981 to 1984. The main focus of this campaign was the definition of the new “aerodynamic” design of the Giulietta, which was subsequently transferred to 75, and then to 33. The Giulietta was the “last success” for Alpha in South Africa until the advent of 164 and 156 models in the 1990s.
In 1985, after the release of about 380,000 Giulietta, the model was replaced by the Alfa Romeo 75 , which used a lot of the main Giulietta.
