Schweinbacher made his debut in the World Cup on December 13, 1995 , in January 2002 he won his first victory at the World Cup stage in the team sprint. In total, he has 2 victories at the stages of the World Cup, one in the individual and team sprints. Schweinbacher's best achievement in the overall World Cup standings are 27th in the 2001/02 and 2004/05 seasons.

At the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, he took 5th place in the free style sprint and 26th place in the classic 15 km race

At the 2006 Olympic Games in Turin, he was again 5th in the sprint and 9th in the team sprint.
