Bekan ( VI century ) - holy hegumen of Kilbeggan . Memorial Day - April 5th .
St. Becan (Began), or Began (Began, Beggan) is mentioned as one of the twelve apostles of Ireland in the life of St. Molossus (Molossus), which states that he was the son of Murchad and Cula (Murchade and Cula) from the royal family of Manster , and was in consanguinity with St. Patrick . St. Bekan is revered as one of the three greatest virtuous men, along with St. Endeus (Comm. 21 March ) and Mochua ( Mochua ), all of whom were spiritual leaders at that fruitful time of the holy people. He founded a monastery in the place now called Kill-Beggan, Westmeath . During the construction of the temple, he often worked on his knees, his hands were busy, and he prayed with his lips and eyes full of tears. His name is also given to the parish of Imleach-Becken , County Meath .
