Biography
Pavel Pukhov, better known by his pseudonym P183 (or Pavel 183), was born on August 11, 1983 in Moscow . He was educated in design, but never used the methods that he mastered during his studies. He worked as a system administrator, designer, restorer, production designer.
P183 gained world fame in January 2012 thanks to the British media who published materials about it. The Guardian compared Pasha 183 with the famous English street artist Banksy . In turn, the friends of Pasha 183 called Banksy the “English Pasha” [1] .
Also, P183 is known as the creator of street-art scenery for the TODD zong-opera , set on the Pot idea in 2012 [2] (see below).
He died on the 30th year of life on April 1, 2013 in Moscow. Causes of death are not published. Supposedly, he died of cardiac arrest [3] , and there is also information that his death was not violent [4] . He was buried at the Rakitki cemetery in New Moscow [5] .
Exhibitions
- In January-February 2013, a joint exhibition of pictorial works by street artists P183 and Nebay was held in the framework of the RussenKo festival in the city hall of the French city of Le-Kremlin Bicêtre [6] .
- From March 6 to May 25, 2014, the first solo exhibition of Pasha 183 was held at MMOMA , organized by his family and friends in memory of the artist.
- From June 27 to August 31, 2014, a personal exhibition of Pasha 183 was held in Vladivostok at the Zarya Center for Contemporary Art [7] .
- The work "The Walls Do Not Sleep" is on permanent display in the Museum of Street Art [8] .
Work in the theater
In 2012, P183 took part in the creation of the TODD zong-opera together with the King and the Clown group . The musical, invented by Mikhail Gorshenyov (the Pot) , was first shown on November 6, 2012 at the Moscow Film Actor Theater [9] . Paul painted the scenery, creating a kind of horror atmosphere. In particular, among the drawings made are various “hooligan” inscriptions, ghosts stretching toward the sky and a huge skull.
We can say that this work is one of the most iconic, drawing the attention of the theater and music communities to P183. In addition, it became a kind of monument to the departed (just like the Pot) a year after the artist’s premiere - the production was resumed in 2014 and continues to this day [10] .
Memory
Banksy soon after Paul’s death dedicated his work to the work of the “P183 RIP” [11] . In memory of Pavel, a group of artists decorated a memorial wall at Winzavod .
