Career
During his career, he performed at three world championships , at the 1939 championship he became the winner in the relay race. At the world championships of 1938 and 1950, he started in a total of four personal races, the best result - 18th place in the 18 km races in both championships.
He took part in the hostilities on the Soviet-Finnish front of World War II , was awarded the Mannerheim Cross . After the war, he immigrated to the United States, where he was also a military man, and retired in 1968 with the rank of lieutenant colonel . While serving in West Germany in the 1950s, he commanded a company and his personal chauffeur was Elvis Presley , who served in the military there. He died in 1990, was buried in Arlington National Cemetery . His son, Vesa Juhani Alakulppi, was also a military man, graduated from the US Military Academy and died in the Vietnam War .
