Biography

Nikolai Zakharov was born on August 10, 1921 in Cheboksary . He graduated from high school and flying club in his hometown. In June 1941, Zakharov was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In the same year he graduated from the Sverdlovsk Military Aviation Pilot School. Since January 1942 - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. He took part in the battles on the Bryansk , Voronezh , 1st , 2nd and 3rd Ukrainian fronts. He participated in the Battle of Kursk , the liberation of the Ukrainian and Moldavian SSR, Romania , Yugoslavia [1] .

By February 1945, the Guard, Senior Lieutenant Nikolai Zakharov was the navigator of the 166th Guards Assault Aviation Regiment of the 10th Guards Assault Air Division of the 17th Air Army of the 3rd Ukrainian Front . By that time, he had made 131 sorties to bombard and attack clusters of military equipment and manpower of the enemy, his important objects [1] .

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of June 29, 1945, for “courage and heroism shown at the front of the struggle against the German invaders” of the guard, senior lieutenant Nikolai Zakharov was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin at number 50257 and the Gold Star medal for number 7603 [1] .

Since November 1944, he trained the flight and technical personnel of the Air Force of the People's Liberation Army of Yugoslavia . After the war, Zakharov continued to serve in the Soviet Army. In 1950 he graduated from the Air Force Academy . He participated in the Korean War . In 1961, with the rank of colonel, Zakharov was sacked. He lived in Kherson , worked at a design institute. He died on December 12, 2001, was buried in Kherson [1] .
