Biography
Alexander Jomini was born in 1814; son of the famous military theorist Heinrich Jomini . He was a senior adviser to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and, as an excellent stylist, preliminarily reviewed all diplomatic documents. At the end of the Crimean War, Jomini traveled with special assignments to Berlin , and in 1861 to the city of Paris [1] .
In 1875, he headed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs instead of the State Chancellor; during the Russian-Turkish war of 1877-78 was in Bucharest under Prince Gorchakov ; in 1879 and 1880 he corrected the position of comrade (deputy) of the Minister of Foreign Affairs [1] .
In 1881, he was most Highly granted the Order of St. Alexander Nevsky , decorated with diamonds " to commemorate the special attention to excellent works for 25 years on the important duties assigned to him "; and on April 1, 1882, he was appointed Secretary of State. December 5, 1885, on the fiftieth anniversary of the service of Baron Jomini in the diplomatic field, he was granted a snuffbox “ with a diamond-decorated portrait of the Sovereign Emperor ” [2] .
Alexander Genrikhovich Zhomini died on December 5, 1888 in the city of St. Petersburg [2] . Married to Maria I. Yushkova. After Jomini, many interesting notes remained, but, during the life of the author, little was printed from them. As early as 1863, Jomini, on the basis of materials available to him alone, compiled a true sketch of the diplomatic history of the Crimean War , which shed bright light on its backstage side; but in print this essay could appear only 11 years later and only anonymously: “Etude diplomatique sur la guerre de Crimée, 1852 - 1856 , par un ancien diplomate” ( Paris , 1874 ; also St. Petersburg, 1878 ). In Russian and with the author’s name (“Russia and Europe in the era of the Crimean campaign”), it was published in the “Bulletin of Europe” ( 1886 , pr. 2-10) [1] .
