Nicola de Chiaramonte ( Niccolò De Chiaramonte, O. Cist. , Also known as Nicolaus Claromonte or Chiaromonti ) is a 13th-century Catholic church figure. He took the vows of the Order of the Cistercians in the convent of S. Maria del Sagittario. At the Consistory of 1219, he was proclaimed Cardinal Bishop of the Diocese of Frascati . He was sent as a papal legate to Germany in order to convince Emperor Frederick II to take part in the crusade. He participated in the election of the pope in 1227 ( Gregory IX ). [one]
