- January 4 - Warsaw Polytechnic University was founded in Poland.
- February 11 - the first university was founded in London.
- Scottish engineer Thomas Drummond invented a new kind of lighting - drummond light , which was used in the theater.
Publications
- On February 7 (19), 1826, the Russian mathematician Nikolai Ivanovich Lobachevsky presented for publication in the university journal the article “ Compressed exposition of geometry began with strict proof of the parallel theorem ”. The manuscript was not preserved; however, the essay was included by Lobachevsky in his work On the Principles of Geometry (1829–1830), published in the Kazan Gazette journal. This work was the first serious publication in the world literature on non-Euclidean geometry, or Lobachevsky geometry [1] .
- The French physicist Andre-Marie Ampère published the classic monograph " Theory of Electrodynamic Phenomena, derived exclusively from experience ." He discovered an electromagnet ( solenoid ), expressed the idea of an electric telegraph . Ampere's formula for the interaction of two current elements was included in the textbooks [2] .
- The Crelle's Journal of Mathematics (“Krell ’s Journal ”) begins publication in Berlin.
- In London, the begins to be published.
