Zygmunt (Sigismund) Noskovsky ( Polish: Zygmunt Noskowski ; May 2, 1846 , Warsaw - July 23, 1909 , ibid.) - Polish composer, conductor and music teacher. The younger brother of the agronomist Vladislav Noskovsky (1841-1881).

Biography

Born in the family of a Warsaw lawyer. From the age of five he played the violin; his first mentor was Jan Hornzel , a teacher of Henryk Wieniawski . Then he became interested in composition, the first experiments attracted the attention of Ignatius Dobrzynski , later became a student of Stanislav Monyushko . At the age of 15, he wrote his first musical composition.

In the years 1864-1867. studied at the Warsaw Institute of Music under the direction of Apollinaria Kontsky ( violin ) and Stanislav Monyushko (composition). Then he played in the orchestra of the Warsaw Opera House. In 1872 he left for Berlin , where for three years he studied the theory of composition and instrumentation at the Higher School of Music by Friedrich Kiel . During this period he became interested in conducting . In 1881 he returned to Warsaw and actively joined the musical life of the capital. In the same year he took the place of director of the Warsaw Music Society.

In 1901, he was one of the initiators of the creation of the Warsaw Philharmonic and the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra . In 1907, the Philharmonic and the Opera House merged, and Noskovsky became the artistic director of the orchestra. At his initiative, a children's choir was created, for which Noskovsky composed a number of works.

In 1906, the composer was in Moscow, where he directed a concert from his works, which met with favorable reviews from the press.

Since 1886, for many years he was professor and director of the Warsaw Institute of Music and raised many of the most prominent Polish musicians. Among his students are composers Henrik Meltzer-Schavinsky , Ludomir Ruzhitsky , Karol Szymanowski , Apolinarius Sheluto , Adam Venyavsky , Mechislav Karlovich , Felix Konopasek , Eugeniusz Moravsky-Dombrova , Grzegorz Fitelberg and others.

Creativity

Noskovsky is the author of large symphonic works. A talented and prolific composer, Noskovsky wrote three symphonies, three operas, one ballet, the cantata "Svityzianka" on the words of the same poem by A. Mitskevich , symphonic variations "From Folk Life" on the theme of A-major prelude by Chopin , several symphonic poems, and treatment of Polish and Lithuanian folk songs.

He wrote overtures and quartets (string, piano). Of his works, the greatest success fell to the overture of “Morskie oko”.

He compiled textbooks on harmony and counterpoint. As a music teacher at the Institute for Blind Children, he invented a convex sheet music font for the blind.
