Biography

Raymond Rupeyks was born on March 8, 1966 in the city of Leninsk of the Kazakh SSR in a family of employees. Father is a design engineer, mother is an economist.

He graduated from the 3rd Jekabpils Secondary School (1983), studied at the Riga Polytechnic Institute (1984-1987) and at the theater department of the Latvian Academy of Culture (1993-1997) [1] .

He worked at the Riga School of Fundamentals of Acting L. Stiebra, trained with the Latvian director and theater teacher Olgert Kroders . One of the founders of the avant-garde theater association "Nepanesamā teātra arteļa" (1996). Since 1997, the director and subsequently since 2011 the chief director of the Dailes Theater [2] .

Creativity

The performance of Emma Bovary, based on the novel by Gustave Flaubert and Woody Allen 's story “The Image of Sydney Kugelmas” in the independent theater “ Skatuwe ” (1995), became the thesis of J.J. Gilinder. With the performance “The Black Monk” based on the story of A.P. Chekhov, he took part in the International Festival of the New Homo Novus Theater in Daugavpils (1995) and the young talent show “Art Gend - 96” in Denmark (1996). The production of the play by the Russian playwright Nikolai Yakimchuk “Hemingway, Salinger, Becket. Three comrades ”was shown at the Vasilyevsky Island Theater Festival in St. Petersburg (2004). Also, J.J. Gilinder has repeatedly been an applicant for annual Latvian theater awards [3] .

For his work, an element of provocation is characteristic. Often preference is given to those plays where historical figures or literary characters shock society with their extraordinary, paradoxical behavior or perception of the world. To better achieve his goal, he uses: music, stylized movements of actors, catchy theatrical costumes, expressive stage scenes, harsh lights, microphones to enhance voice and create an alienation effect [4] .
