Geography
It is located about 45 km west of the village of Kegen , the administrative center of the district, at an altitude of 1735 meters above sea level [1] . The KATO code is 195837100 [2] .
History
The village of Dzhalanashskaya (Polivanovskaya) was founded in 1910. In 1913 it consisted of 69 yards, was part of the Kolzhatsky section of the Dzharkent district of the Semirechensk region [3] .
In 1943-1963, Zhalanash was the center of the Kegen region .
In the village of Zhalanash, Svetlana Ashimkhanova , a literary critic and translator, was born [4] .
Population
In 1999, the village population was 4076 people (2004 men and 2072 women) [5] . According to the 2009 census , 3691 people lived in the village (1831 men and 1860 women) [5] .
