Feature
The style of the album is slower and more atmospheric compared to the previous albums of the group. His booming music is closer to the first solo album of the former member of Tangerine Dream Klaus Schulze Irrlicht (which was released the same month). Both come from the same general idea, which Schulze and Frese could not agree at one time and went their separate ways.
“Zeit, which means 'time', is based on the philosophy that time does not really move and exists only in our heads ... No doubt, Zeit is a Krautrok workshop, capable of surprises, but without shock. The album, which brought the band to the brink of international recognition, and today, 30 years later, sounds out of time ”(from the text on the cover of the 2002 album reissue) [1] .
The most pure expression of Tangerine Dream’s cosmic music , this double album effortlessly alternates ebb and flow from one sound cluster to the next. Practically classical in composition, the music is structured to unfold in sections where one theme literally melts into the next, and the overall texture Electronics warm and shimmering [2] .
The album consists of four protracted, buzzing, dark, minimalist sound landscapes without visible evolution or development. You can say that little happens over the course of this double album. But if you discard the expectations of Phaedra sequencer electronics, you can enjoy the ambient fantasy-magic, anticipating the work of Brian Eno [3] .
Dark Ambient fans often call this album the first (and possibly the best) example of this genre. .
Florian Fricke from the Munich group Popol Vuh plays the Muga synthesizer , in addition, the quartet of cellists also plays on the first track.
The album cover depicts a solar eclipse.
