Biography
Nikolai Zaryanov was born on September 12, 1920 in Slavgorod (now Altai Territory ). From an early age he lived in the city of Opochka in the Pskov region , where he graduated from ten classes of a school. In 1938, Zaryanov was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . He graduated from the Leningrad Infantry School. He participated in the Soviet-Finnish war . Since the beginning of World War II - on its fronts. He took part in the battles on the Western , Don , Voronezh and Steppe fronts, was wounded 8 times. By the autumn of 1943, Captain Nikolai Zaryanov commanded a battalion of the 230th Guards Rifle Regiment of the 80th Guards Rifle Division of the 4th Guards Army of the Steppe Front. He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper [1] .
On October 5, 1943, Zaryanov’s battalion crossed the Dnieper in the vicinity of the village of Novogeorgievsk (now Nagornoye, Svetlovodsk District ) of the Kirovograd Region of the Ukrainian SSR and seized a bridgehead on its western shore. The battalion managed to repel four German counterattacks and expand the bridgehead, destroying several dozen enemy soldiers and officers [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of February 22, 1944, for “exemplary fulfillment of command assignments and shown courage and heroism in battles with the German invaders” of the guard, Captain Nikolai Zaryanov was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 3383 [1] .
After the war, Zaryanov continued to serve in the Soviet Army. He graduated from the Frunze Military Academy . In 1966, with the rank of lieutenant colonel, Zaryanov was sacked. He lived in Moscow , taught at the military department of the Moscow Civil Engineering Institute . He died on May 8, 1985, was buried at the Dolgoprudnensky cemetery in Moscow [1] .
He was also awarded the Order of the Red Banner and World War 1 degree, a number of medals [1] .
Memory
On October 20, 2015, a street in the Vostochnoye Degunino area of the Northern Administrative District of Moscow was named in honor of Nikolai Zaryanov [2] .
