History
Foot volley was coined in Brazil by Octavio de Moraes in 1965 in Rio de Janeiro on Copacabana Beach . Playing football on the beach was banned. To get around the ban, football fans began to play on the volleyball court, throwing the ball over the net with their feet [1] . Foot volley began in Rio de Janeiro, but in cities such as Recife , Salvador , Brasilia , Goiânia , Santos, and Florianópolis , there are players who played football in the 1970s.
Initially, each team had five people. However, due to the skill level of athletes (almost all were professional footballers) the ball rarely fell to the ground, the players began to reduce the number of participants on each side and, finally, settled on a format of two players in each team that is still in use [ 1] .
In recent years [ when? ] professional football players engaged in the promotion of footboard. They periodically participate in star matches. List of Brazilian footballers: Romario , Edmundo , Ronaldo , Ronaldinho , Junior , Edino [2] . Also playing footvolley was Usain Bolt [3] .
Rules
Foot volley combines rules that are based on the rules of beach volleyball and the rules of football . In essence, foot-volley is beach volleyball, only players cannot use their hands and the volleyball is replaced with a football [4] .
International rules
Points are awarded if the ball falls to the ground in the opponents area, if the opponents make a mistake or if they fail to return the ball through the net. Points are calculated according to the rally point system (new volleyball rules ). The number of sets and points in the set are set by the tournament organizer. Matches usually take place in one set to 18 points or in three sets to 15 points (from the third set to 11 points). The size of the court is 29.5 × 59 feet, which roughly corresponds to 9 × 18 meters (old beach volleyball). Grid height may vary. Official international regulations set a height of 2.2 meters or 7 feet 2 inches for men and 2 meters or 6 feet and 6 inches for women.
Pro Footvolley Tour Rules
The rules in the United States (Footvolley Pro Tour) professional tour are designed to make matches faster and more aggressive. Some of the most noticeable differences are: net height 2.05 meters; no fouls for touching the net; 2 points are awarded only 3 times in a time when a player has one leg higher than his head and the second one is off the ground; smaller court sizes are 28.5 by 57 feet.
International Development
Since the creation of this sport in Brazil, footboard has spread and gained popularity internationally, including Europe, the USA and Asia. The very first international footwear event, held outside Brazil, was organized by the USA Foot-Volley Association in March 2003. This relatively small event significantly influenced the international growth of the popularity of this sport [5] .
Major events were held in many cities and beaches around the world, including Spain , Portugal , Greece , the UAE , France , the Netherlands , Aruba , Thailand [6] , South Africa [7] , Paraguay , etc., and also in the birthplace of footvolley - in Brazil.
