Stefan (Stefan) Prokopiu ( r. Ștefan Procopiu ; January 19, 1890 , Barlad , now in the Vaslui County , Romania - August 22, 1972 , Iasi ) - Romanian physicist, teacher, professor (1926), Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (1924), full member of the Romanian Academy (1955). Laureate of the State Prize of the Socialist Republic of Romania (1964).

Biography
From 1908 to 1912 he studied at Iasi University . A.I. Kuzi .
In 1913-1919 he worked as an assistant at the University of Bucharest . In 1919, he was sent to France as a scholar, where at the University of Paris he attended lectures by Gabriel Lippmann , Maria Sklodowska-Curie , Paul Langevin and other famous physicists.
In March 1924 received a doctorate in physico-mathematical sciences. Returning to his homeland in January 1925, he was a professor of gravity, heat and electricity at Iasi University. He was in this post until his retirement in 1962. Then he was appointed professor at the Iasi Technical University . G. Asaki .
Since June 1948 - a corresponding member, and since July 1955 - a full member of the Romanian Academy.
S. Prokopiu twice became a member of the Nobel Prize Award Committee.
Scientific activity
The works are devoted to electro magnetism , thermodynamics , electrochemistry , optics , magnetism, spectroscopy .
In 1911, Magneton Bora was first discovered and calculated, named after Niels Bohr .
