Biography
Nikolai Zaitsev was born on December 6, 1911 in Samara . He graduated from junior high school. In 1929, Zaitsev was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In 1932, he graduated from the Borisoglebsk Military Aviation Pilot School. He participated in battles on the Khalkhin-Gol River , completed 30 sorties. Since June 1941 - on the fronts of World War II [1] .
By April 1945, the Guard Lieutenant Colonel Nikolai Zaitsev commanded the 80th Guards Bomber Air Regiment ( 1st Guards Bomber Air Division , 6th Guards Bomber Air Corps , 2nd Air Army , 1st Ukrainian Front ). By that time, he had made 111 sorties, inflicting heavy losses on manpower and military equipment [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated June 27, 1945, the Guard, Lieutenant Colonel Nikolai Zaitsev was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the awarding of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal [1] .
After the war ended, Zaitsev continued his service in the Soviet Army. In 1948, he graduated from the Higher Officer Flight Tactical Courses. In 1958, with the rank of Colonel Zaitsev, he was sacked. He lived in Leningrad , died on November 2, 1971 [1] .
Rewards
He was awarded three orders of Lenin, four orders of the Red Banner , orders of Suvorov 3rd degree, Alexander Nevsky , Red Star , a number of medals [1] .
