The Fourth Ice Age ( 第四 間 氷期 ) is a science fiction novel by the famous Japanese writer Abe Kobo . The work was originally published in the Sekai magazine ( Japanese » , Mir) from July 1958 to March 1959 [1] .

Story
In the Soviet Union, the MOSCOW-2 predictor machine was built, which predicted the imminent victory of communism in the world. At the same time, a talented Japanese scientist is building a similar machine in his homeland. However, he is faced with political difficulties that do not allow him to use it for predictions that are somehow related to politics. The scientist decides to use the machine to predict the lives of individuals and, together with his assistant, goes in search of a candidate for the experiment. However, the alleged candidate is killed, and the scientist and his assistant are embroiled in an investigation.
