Kazyuk Bartoshevich - a peasant from a village in the middle of marshes . For many generations of people, the traditional way of life has been preserved here, for example, wheat is reaped as a sickle . Almost no one ever traveled from here, because there is no good road through the swamps. The knowledge of the villagers about the world is based on the traditions and observations of nature. But now civilization is slowly getting here. Marshes will be drained, there will be a road to the city, there will be electrification. The teacher who lives in Kazyuk’s hut introduces new customs, in particular also sexual. Kazyuk is angry with her at first and does not want to know that the earth is round. However, over time, Kazyuk takes some news and the first in the village goes to mow wheat with a scythe. Most villagers believe that this is a great sin. Kazyuk sets to commit another sin - to cut down the holy tree, which from the ages has been growing on its land.
