Biography
Born May 28 (June 10), 1905 in Kiev. He graduated from the literary and linguistic department of Kiev University ( 1926 ), after which he moved to Leningrad. In 1931 - 1946 (with a break for the evacuation from Leningrad to Ivanovo in 1942 - 1944 ) he worked at the Saltykov-Shchedrin State Public Library , while studying the literary heritage of Russian revolutionary-democratic writers of the second half of the 19th century. Published "Chronicle of the life and work of N. A. Dobrolyubov " (1953). During the war years, compiled a bibliographic index "Patriotic Ideas in Russian Literature" (Ivanovo, 1943; reprint: Leningrad, 1945).
Since 1946 he taught at the Leningrad Library Institute . At the same time he worked on his doctoral dissertation on Dobrolyubov, which he defended in 1957 . He further expanded the scope of his scientific interests, studying creativity and preparing publications by I. S. Turgenev , N. S. Leskov , N. A. Nekrasov , A. A. Grigoryev . Among the late works of Racer, the textbook "Fundamentals of Textology" is of particular importance.
He died on October 6, 1989 in Leningrad. An urn with ashes is buried in the columbarium of the crematorium .

A cousin - Maria Lazarevna Tronskaya (nee Gurfinkel; 1896-1987), a historian of German literature, professor of Leningrad State University , was married to classical philologist I.M. Tronsky .
