The men's 1000 meters race at the World Speed Skating Championships 2013 at separate distances was held on March 22 at the Adler-Arena in Sochi , Russia . 24 athletes took part in the races.
The Kazakhstani Denis Kuzin, who had never risen above 5th place in World Cup stages, won the sensational victory. Korean Mo Mo Bom comes second, Olympic champion Shani Davis third.
For Kazakhstan, the victory was the first in the history of the world championships at individual distances, and the Cousin medal became the second for Kazakhstan after bronze Lyudmila Prokasheva at 3000 meters in the first championship in 1996.
